News Genres
Split into two categories
Serious reportage- 'proper' news which deal with serious issues that have significant consequences (genres include crime, politics, education, business). Dealt with a serious tone by journalists.
General Interest- Less significant news often popular with mass audiences (genre include sports, arts and culture (music, TV, film), Celebrity gossip). Often dealt with in a more relaxed, light- hearted tone.
The difference between a feature article and news stories
Timing- A news story is time sensitive and should be published ASAP
Style- News stories tend to be shorter and average 300-500 words as they go straight to the point and focus on content rather than form. Feature stories can be more than 2000 words
Beginning and ending- News stories give the most important details in the first two paragraphs. The beginning of a feature doesn't give the news straight away to hook readers to continue reading it.
